  • DARFUR: As more UNAMID personnel arrive in Darfur, the ICC continues to process its case against President el-Bashir, the Janjaweed are reportedly on the offensive in South Darfur.
  • DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: Fighting has temporarily subsided in North Kivu, but violence is reported in the previously calm region of Ituri.
  • SRI LANKA: More than 200,000 people are displaced in northern Sri Lanka as the government continues to close in on the LTTE center in Kilinochchi.
  • SOMALIA: Violence continues in Somalia as non-combatants continue to be victimized by shelling and assassination, even as AMISOM receives more troop reinforcements.

  • DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: Violence against civilians continues unabated as January's peace agreement is repeatedly violated.
  • DARFUR: Peacekeepers come under attack again as security and living conditions for IDPs continue to deteriorate.
  • SRI LANKA: The government continues its offensive against the Tamil Tigers as suicide bombings become more frequent.
  • SOMALIA: Fierce fighting in Somalia has turned large portions of Mogadishu into a ghost town as more than 500,000 have fled the capital.

  • DARFUR: The Sudanese government bombs civilians near Tawila, North Darfur, even as it attempts to gain support for a deferral of the ICC's prosecution of President Omar al-Bashir.
  • DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: The DRC government and the CNDP militia continue to fight in North Kivu as the UN works to enforce a new peace deal.
  • SRI LANKA: Most NGOs pull out of the north of the country as low-intensity fighting occurs in areas not normally affected by violence.
  • SOMALIA: Civilians continue to be affected by violence, as Mogadishu's Bakara market comes under fire again.

  • DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO: The peace process grows increasingly fragile as new fighting between the government and CNDP rebels is reported.
  • SRI LANKA: The government continues its offensive against the LTTE while it bars relief organizations from operating in rebel-held territory.
