Domino – A Game of Chance and Skill

domino

Domino is a game of chance and skill. It can be played with either two or more players. It is a tile-based game that requires a set of 28 dominoes with identifying marks on both sides.

A domino is a flat, thumbsized block of wood with a blank or identically patterned face and arranged pips, like a die. It can be used to play a variety of games.

Rules

Domino can generate a psionic aura that alters the laws of probability, shifting odds in her favor. She also has extensive weapons expertise and is a master martial artist. She can even teleport herself to another location, or use her staff to fire projectiles.

The rules of domino vary according to the game being played. Most games follow basic guidelines for the order of play and scoring. The winner of the last hand begins the new one. If there is a tie, players draw a domino and compare to determine who starts the new hand.

Some games require that the open ends of touching dominoes add up to a certain total, such as the total of an [6:6] set. Other rules specify what can be played where, such as a double blank or a tile whose two ends add up to a particular number. Domino can also use a special tile called a spinner, which is played on all four sides.

Variations

Dominoes (also called bones, cards, men, or tiles) are rectangular and double-sided. Each side has an identity-bearing set of spots, or pips, that vary in value from six to blank. The pips are usually separated by a line, visually dividing each domino into two squares or ends.

In a game of Draw dominoes, two to four players start by drawing seven dominoes from a boneyard, then taking turns laying matching domino halves end to end. Players score points if the open ends of the chains add up to a multiple of five.

A career mercenary, Domino was a bodyguard for Milo Thurman and became a friend of the time-traveling mutant Cable (Nathan Summers). She joined Storm’s security task force, Six Pack, and briefly impersonated Copycat. Later, she worked for the Hong Kong branch of X-Corp and fought alongside X-Force. Domino also possesses the ability to generate a psionic aura around herself that alters probabilities, providing her with good luck while bringing bad to others.

Materials

Dominoes have been manufactured from a variety of materials throughout history. Traditionally, European dominoes were made from bone or silver lip ocean pearl oyster shell (mother of pearl), often with a dark wood such as ebony for the pips inlaid on one side.

Other natural materials have been used, including stone; metals, such as brass or pewter; ceramic clay; and even frosted glass or crystal. These sets usually have a more unique look and may be quite heavy in comparison to polymer sets.

In the early 20th century, a process called Bakelite was developed that produced a hard, resilient synthetic material known as plastic. This was widely used for a variety of everyday products including dominoes. Modern dominoes are typically made of cheap, shiny black plastic. However, some sets are still made from a combination of traditional materials such as ebony and bone. These sets tend to have a more luxurious feel and are typically more expensive.

Scoring

Domino is a skilled mercenary who works with her father Cable (Michael Rooker) and her Six Pack teammates Grizzly (Theodore Wincester) and Hammer (Eisenhower Canty). She also teams up with super-hero groups like X-Force and the X-Men, despite the fact that she’s frequently placed in the crosshairs of high profile opponents from Stryfe to Mister Sinister. Her probability-altering powers allow her to receive “good luck” while her enemies suffer from bad.

After each round, players add to their score based on the total number of dots on the dominoes they have left in their hands. The winner of the game is the player who has the highest count. Generally, all open ends of the domino are counted, but the first half of doubles are not counted. The count is multiplied by five and added to the winner’s score. The winners of each hand then start the next round. Generally, the winner of each round starts the next with the heaviest domino.
