Roulette is a casino game in which players place bets on which number the ball will land in. Bets can be placed on individual numbers, groups of numbers, the color red or black, and whether they are odd or even. The wheel has 36 numbered pockets that are alternately colored red and black, plus two green compartments marked zero on American wheels.

Origin

There are many fanciful stories about the origin of roulette, including that it was invented by 17th-century French mathematician Blaise Pascal. Others claim that it was first developed in China and later transmitted to France by Dominican monks, who brought the game back to Europe with some modifications. In fact, roulette is based on older games like hoca and portique and was first mentioned under its current name in 1716. Its present layout and wheel structure were developed about a decade later.
