Roulette is a game of chance. Players place chips on a table map showing number slots and betting areas. Each area has a different payout. You can choose to bet on a single number or on groups of numbers with higher chances of winning but lower payouts.
Bets remain in place until the dealer announces “no more bets”. It’s important to know the rules before you play, to avoid losing your money.
Origin
Roulette has a long and storied history. Though a lot of people have come up with fanciful stories about its origins, we know that the game first became popular in Europe during the eighteenth century. Its modern form is believed to have originated in France, where it was first mentioned under the name “roulette” in 1716. The game is believed to have been derived from the older games portique, hoca, and bassette. The word “roulette” actually derives from the Old French roelet, which itself descends from the Late Latin rotella.
The game itself was probably conceived in 1655 by Blaise Pascal, who was trying to create a perpetual motion machine while staying at the Port-Royal-des-Champs monastery near Paris. This version of the game used a cylinder with numbered slots and a revolving wheel.
