The Basics of Roulette

roullete

A game of chance played with a revolving wheel that contains numbers from 1 to 36, plus one or two zeros. The ball is spun in the direction of a number and if it lands on that number, you win.

Roulette has become popular as a casino game and there are many betting systems that claim to beat the odds. However, the truth is that no system can guarantee a profit.

Origin

There are a lot of different theories about the origin of roulette. Some people claim that the game was invented by a 17th century French mathematician named Blaise Pascal in his quest to create a perpetual motion machine. Others say that the game came from China and was brought to France by Dominican monks. Whatever the case, it’s clear that the modern version of roulette was created in the late 18th century and quickly became a popular game at gambling houses.

Some also claim that the roulette wheel was based on the Italian board game Biribi. Other games like portique, hoca, bassette and roly poly are often considered precursors to roulette as well. However, these games are quite similar to each other and it’s not easy to tell which one was the real inspiration.

Variations

While the core game of roulette remains the same, there are different variations that you can play. These differences depend on your skills and experience. If you’re a beginner, it is better to choose variants that follow European rules and offer a friendly house edge. However, if you’re an experienced player, you may want to try roulette games with special betting rules or additional bets. There are also many different wheel configurations that you can choose from.

Bets

The odds of a bet can be quite varied depending on the type of wager being placed. For example, the Dozens bet covers 12 numbers and pays 2-1, while a Street bet costs 9 chips and covers 17 numbers, with the payout varying between PS18 and PS24. Another variable special bet is the Voisins, which covers a number and the two numbers either side of it on the wheel. The payouts on this bet range from 1 to 1. There are also a variety of other outside bets.
