The History of Roulette

roullete

Roulette is one of the oldest casino games and is a game of chance. There are a number of different types of bets and winnings are paid out in normal casino chips.

The game is played on a table with a wheel and betting mats. Bets are placed by laying chips on the appropriate area of the table. The wagers can be divided into two categories; inside and outside bets.

Origins

There are many fanciful stories about the origins of roulette, including that it was invented by a 17th-century French mathematician, Blaise Pascal, or by a monk. However, the game likely evolved from earlier games such as hoca and portique. Its modern layout and wheel structure first appeared in France in the early 18th century. It is possible that Roman soldiers also played a gambling game similar to roulette, which involved spinning shields with symbols on them.
